If you are an active or retired police or fire you dont have to wait if they have one you can buy it. If your not it has to be avialible for 6 months before a civilian can purchase it. At least thats what I was told when I bought mine in 2009.
I think that's for Special Edition bikes (Peace Officer/Fire fighter). The "Police" bike are totally different, and once they are available, anybody can get them...X months at the dealer first.
Daytona Harley usually has several. Gainesville Harley had two black ones a few years ago, one of which I almost bought. They are A LOT of bike for the money.
If the dealer is selling FLHTP or FLHP new to the general public, they have to hold the bike for 6 months before they can put it on the floor for sale. I bought mine with 6 miles on it in 2010. I asked the guy how the deal works, he told me that the dealership will pick up x number of bikes for local law enforcement and a few extras to sell on the floor. They put the extras on hold for six months from the time the factory delivers. That is the deal with HD.
Ever since the start, and now at the end of my chapter 13, I needed an OK from the court to be in compliance to get 3rd registered motor vehicle. And Las Vegas does not help the effort in looking for new FLHTP. They,as the dealerships here would and did not carry FLHTP and blew smoke up my asswhen I asked in that effort from them, “Why would I want a police bike “thatwas my reasons only as there attempt to sell me a unit I did not want, or get aused unit that they had on hand to save me money and stay within the funds I allocatedfor the FLHTP. I was happy with a dealership out of Idaho 700 miles away upin Idaho. But on the fence in stereo to go with Harley or after market, being Ido so much outdoor stuff with Bluetooth is a must and amplifier also a must have.
