Good morning, I am trying to help my brother figure out why his 2006 Road Glide keeps blowing the 15 amp accessory fuse. The bike has aftermarket exhaust, air cleaner and Harley's stage 1 download. When he goes to start the bike it will blow the fuse, if he only hits the start button to turn the motor over it does not blow. It will run fine with the fuse blown, but he has no speedometer, tack, turn lights. After he starts his bike he can replace the fuse and it works fine until he starts the bike again.Sorry for the long post, only trying to give as much info as possible. Thanks in advance.

Reason: spelling
He's got a spelling gremln as well!!!! Sorry 'bout that.
Please explain the following:
When he goes to start the bike it will blow the fuse, if he only hits the start button to turn the motor over it does not blow.
How can it do both of those things? Starting the bike requires pressing the starter button. I don't understand what you mean by those words.
Setting that aside, there would appear to be a problem with one of the items that won't work when the fuse is blown. Has your brother done any mods recently to his bike? As a first line of attack I suggest tracing the wiring for each of those things that don't work, to see if there is a damaged or trapped wire. Electrical problems are often caused by something simple, although it may not be simple to find!
Thanks for the reply. He can bump the start switch several times without starting the bike but the fuse only blows when the bike starts. He has not done any mods to the bike. Yes the next step is to remove the front of the Road Glide and start tracing wires. Just was hoping someone else had been through this problem and give an idea of which wires to start looking at.

When we press the starter a relay cuts power to things like the headlight while the starter operates. So that may explain why the fuse only blows after the engine starts, when the rest of the bike's electrics are switched back on by the relay. Given time other members will call by and all being well we can get closer to a solution!
Not having the schematics for your bike I've been looking over the 2011 manual. It's always difficult to determine why one circuit effects another. In this case why does holding the start button in or the eng starting cause the Accy circuit to draw more than 15A. I would unplug the wire on the starter solenoid and push the start button and see if the fuse still blows.
