just wondering what you guys think, at times when bike is shut off for a short time and when you go to restart it starts to turn over for a split second and makes a rapid stop while thumb is still on starter button, let off button hit again and all is ok. its almost like vapor locking a vehicle, any thoughts
thanks.
a motor ALWAYS stops on the compression stroke.
when hot the piston has expanded to a tight seal in the cylinder
so the highest possible resistance
if you ever had a bike with a kicker- you can feel this
also when hot the starter is not as efficient ( hot starter windings resist the flow of electrons)
what I do- I flick the starter button...the starter will start turning the motor and the piston will either rotate past TDC or rebound back down the bore.
when I next press and hold the starter button the motor can build a little forward momentum before hitting compression
if you ever hear whining from the starter and it is not turning...that is the windings burning- leggo the button

What you are describing is a symptom of a battery going bad. Mine was doing that.... replaced the battery and all is good again. A 96 doesn't need compression releases. A good battery will spin a 96, even when hot.

it is the original battery, guess I need to test it. I just ruled that because I can play stereo for an hour on acc. and put trickle charger on and it charges within 5 minutes
