My dad just bought an '02 Ultra Classic EFI. Cherry bike with hardly any miles (garage queen) and bone stock. The only thing not working is the cruise. This is his first Harley, and my first is a '14 Ultra Limited, so I don't know anything about the older ones.
I've already done the initializing procedure, and it set just as described on another thread. Still no cruise, so I pulled the codes and it shows a 122, which, according to the other thread, is brake activation.
My question is; does the cruise get its brake signal from the same source as for the brake light? Fm so, this can't be the issue, as the light is activating as expected. I can only guess there is another signal source causing the cruise problem.
Check the roll off switch on the throttle cable. You can unplug it right on the cable. If that switch shorts out, no cruise. If cruise works after unplugging that switch, then it is bad. You can leave it unplugged but you cannot roll the throttle forward to disengage cruise. Switch is right by the steering neck on the right side.

Follow throttle cables to front of tank on right side of bike you will see a little switch behind a black boot on one of the cables. Unplug one of the wires and I bet cruise starts working. This is a roll off switch that shuts cruise off when you roll throttle forward. cruise will still stop when you hit either brake. I unplugged mine a long time ago and don't regret it.
I think you have to replace the throttle cable as it is an integrated part of the cable. I may be wrong about this as I never fixed it on my '03 ultra.

Hey guys, isn't it the idle cable that contains the switch?
