Default Questions

Just bought a new 07 Road King to join my 00 Ducati ST04. I picked the bike up last week and on day 2 took my wife for a ride. Now here is the strange thing. Upon geting off she said that all in all she much preferred the back of the Ducati and in fact the back of most any other motorcycle I have owned in the last 30 years or so including a ZX11, VTR1000, St1300 etc.

Now looking at the seat I can see some problems. The pillion does have a rearward slop to it and with the foot boards further forward her feet are out front of her seat as opposed to under it. Getting a back rest would help but I figure that seat needs to go as well. Finally the chrome guard rails in front of the bags interfere with the back of her legs. That seems to be an easy fix because there are bag mounts that do not have the guard rails.

So, any suggestions on seats? I have always bought Corbin for my other bikes and liked them but am unfamiliar with the likes of Mustang etc. Or even perhaps one of the accessory Harley seats. Finally does anyone out there make just a replacement passenger seat so I don't have to replace both.

Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the forum. My suggestion would be to call Mustang. Give them your info and the other halfs.. i.e. height, weight etc and what you're hoping to accomplish. They'll get you straight. I did exactly that and love my seat. I am sure there are others who'lll chime in as well.

Lots of great choices out there, but it seems that the most popular are from Mustang, Sundowner (an HD product), and Corbin. I have the Mustang solo with wide passenger pillon and HD backrest. My wife can easily handle an hour on the bike without a stop. I like the solo look during the week since she only rides with me on the weekends.

I would suggest you raise the floorboards by unbolting them and putting them in the higher bolt hole= 1 inch. Then look at a touring seat from a classic or ultra. a little flatter where the wife sits. Just an idea. Welcome.

I have the Mustang solo w/ removable 13.5" wide pass pilion, and HD backrest. Wife hated the stock HD seat after 1/2 hr, wife's 5"9" 135lbs.this one she can go for miles. One philips screw and its off and I'm back solo again. Either this or Corbin, you can't go wrong.

I'm also have the bag bar which I'm mounting to get rid of the bag gaurd bar. I didn't like the look of the second guard bar either. I'll post some pics after I throw it on this week.

Love the King!

Pastor John...You say you use an HD backrest with a Mustang solo? Mustang says their backrest will not work with the solo unless you order the solo with rest already attached. Did the HD one fit with no problem?

Thanks for the advice. I have had Corbin seats in the past and if they can Make a Honda VTR comfortable then I think I can't go wrong with one of them. Now to find the best deal!!

Get a sissy bar and backrest for her (3 heights to choose from, spendy...so get the right one for her), raise the floor boards, and tell her to get used to it and enjoy it, she's no longer sitting/standing and trying not to slide off the back of your other machine.
