Default High idle

2008 Electraglide Ultra Classic. All stock. 22K miles.

Starting yesterday the bike is idling high, like about 2100 rpm's high. If I turn and hold the grip (the opposite way from revving) she'll idle down nicely but I've never had to do that.

Never had to do much to this bike. Do you guys know how to adjust idle on this motorcycle. I'd like to get her back down where she belongs.

Many thanks.

with bike off, set run/stop switch to run.
Turn ignition switch on, count 1-2-3-4 (do not start the bike)
Turn ignition switch off, count 1-2-3-4
repeat 3 more times. (total 4 on-off cycles)

Thank you very much. I will sneak out and try this routine at lunch time. Will let you know how it works out.

Guaranteed! I've had this issue also on my 08. They say it is from shutting down the motor while engine RPM is higher than normal. It "remembers" this idle and sets it as the new default. One of the common suggestions to help this is to use the ignition to shut down the bike rather than the kill switch. This way your hand is off the throttle on shutdown.

Just wanted to close this out and report back. The reset fix worked as described. Bike idling nice again. Just wanted to say thanks again for throwing the old boy a bone. Its much appreciated.

Also, I apologize as I should have searched the topic out before posting. I later saw this had been gone over before on the forum.

The Harley continues to run well.

Many thanks for the help everybody.
