Default 2001 Road Glide Sreaming Eagle

I am looking at a 2001 Screaming Eagle Road Glide at a local dealer that has 20K miles on it. The bike was purchased new there and all service was done at the dealer. The 20K service has just been completed with a new rear tire. I have yet to drive the bike but it looks original and in real nice shape. They are asking 17900 for the bike but will go to 17. Is this reasonable for this bike and what should I look for when I ride it and was there any issue with this year model? Thanks.

Sounds like it's a good looking bike in good shape for its mileage. But with new standard (non-SE) Road Glides going for about the same price, I wonder if the performance of the enhanced motor of the '01 SE would be better than the new 96 inch motor in the '07? I know that the '01 SE will have lots of cosmetic enhancements over the standard model, but $17k for a six year old bike with 20k on the clock seems too much for me. But if they really hold their value that well, then I am REALLY pleased to have spent MSRP on my '07!

I think there is much more benefit to buyinga new RG for a litte more money. I concur with the Pastor.

I would ride an '07 also just to make sure. Also, if you are financing, a lot of times the payment ends up being not that much different. This is due to being able to get lower rates and longer terms on a new bike vs a used one. I hope we aren't overstepping your question though since all you really asked was for opinions on the price etc.

I have a 2000 Screamin Eagle Road Glide and love it!!
17000 for that bike is about right depending on the condition.
Good luck with your choice their both great bikes.

I talked to the original owner of this bike which was traded for a 2007 UC. He liked the bike and actualy misses it some. He said he like the gearing and fuel economy (55 vs 40) better than the UC.I plan to test ride the bike tomorrow and as this will be my first harley test ride some suggestions maybe in order, i.e. what to expect, etc. My last bike was in 1995 and it was a 1987 Honda Magna. Also, I have been searching for a fair price to offer. He said he traded for $14,500 last fall. The dealer has since perfromed the 20K service and installed a new rear tire.Considering this bike vs a new one I figure 16K would be fair. Also, as it has 20K miles and the only work that was done was a new stator and regulator, what would be in store for service in the next 5-10K miles?

Thanks,

if you're looking for opinions, I'd buy new before I paid that for a 6 year old bike, low miles or not, but that's just me.

I was not able to test drive the bike due to the rain but am looking at maye Sunday. I know 17K is pretty close to a new bike without the SE options so its a hard call which is most likly why its been at the dealer for 9 months. Maybe I could get a good deal on a 2007 in July as I missed the mid winter deals.
