I had a similar problem with my 90 FLSTC. The seal between the tranny & primary failed. So I had tranny oil in the primary. Just a thought.

There is no seal between the transmission and the primary...

HMM that's what the guy that replaced it told me. He said I overfilled the tranny & the pressure blew the seal.

The clutch push rod that comes thru from the transmission is the vent for the primary into the transmission and shares the transmission vent. The other 3 seals on the transmission if leaking will leak out on the drive belt pulley. The seal behind the alternator rotor could leak into it. However, from experience, if someone fills the primary to the derby cover lip, it will take 2 quarts. Here is that engine seal and the sleeve that runs in it that is sandwiched behind the compensator. It only get oil spray.

Thanks for the input, guys. I guess more than anything I wanted to see if anyone else noticed this on their bike as well. I'm confident it's now filled with the correct amount but I'm fairly certain it was prior too since I've had the derby cover off a few times for clutch adjustments since the fluid was changed by the dealer and never had fluid leak out or noticed the level above the bottom of the basket.

Tranny and engine oil levels are normal and what they were at the previous service.

Ah well.

Could it be since the new callout for the amount for new big cruisers puts the oil at the top of the clutch spring (I think to help lube compensator) dealer did it that way on purpose. It really takes a whole lot to cause a problem unless you are a lead footed hotrodder.. I doubt you even noticed any difference.
