Default Drained 50+ oz from primary?!

Have a 2011 street glide with 19,000 miles on it and decided to do the 20,000 mile service before heading out on our annual bike trip - this year to Telluride (from Milwaukee). First time I personally am changing the primary oil in my bike and drained out well over 50 oz! I have checked the level several times before when adjusting my clutch and it always was at the bottom of the clutch basket. I put in 38 oz and it once again comes to the bottom of the basket. I drained it when it was hit/warm, but can't imagine heat would cause a 50% expansion on the Syn3 that the dealer had put in previously.

Anyone ever measure the amount they drained?

If the crank seal behind the stator starts to leak, your motor oil starts to migrate into the primary. That would cause the primary to be over full. Have you had to add engine oil? Did you notice any issues with the clutch recently?

Yeah, thought of that too, but motor oil is good. Changed that last week as part of the 20,000 mile service and while draining the primary I double-check the level in the motor oil and it was still spot on.

I haven't heard about it happening, but how's the trans fluid level? That's the only other place you could pick up an extra 12 oz of fluid.

Edit: you drained it from the drain plug and not by removing the outer primary cover right? If you pull the cover, the service manual states 45 oz to refill.

Just took off the derby cover after I pulled the plug to drain it. Didn't touch the outer. I just don't get it. I actually double-checked the container I drained it into just to be sure the volume markings on the side were correct! WTH?!

...LOL. You did say this was the first time doing your own service. Unless your engine oil was low (and you said it wasn't) chalk it up to the dealer putting to much fluid in the primary and drive on.
