No points. I took off the cam cover plate and nothing under their. I just bought this bike and don't have a book in it. Just wondering how you adjust the timing? Thanks
What you may be running into is a lean pop condition.
My 06 EGS (carb) did it some also.
If you pull out the choke **** a tiny bit , does it help?
The factory carb jetting is really lean , but you can easily fix it for under 20 bucks yourself.
My idle was erratic and it ran really bad till it was completely harm/hot then it would be OK.
This would be a lean condition.
You can make it much better by first unplugging the idle mixture screw , and turning it out a little at a time.
Mine was better after that , but I wanted more.
Pulled the #45 pilot jet and went to a #46 , a little better.
Then went to a #48 pilot , much better and not as hot in traffic.
You can get the jets from jpcycle one at a time for about $3.99 each.
There are a few good ideas in the DIY section for these mods.
I then added 2 #4 machine washers under the slide needle , and the low to mid range got better also.
If your plugs are really white , this is probably what you have.
You could have the dealer check the timing , but you're probably lean anyway.
I did these mods before I even went to pipes , mufflers , duals , Big Sucker , and it helped alot.

I don't believe you can manually adjust the timing.
The timing I believe is preset by the cam sensor.
I don't believe the cam sensor is adjustable.
But you would need the service manual for your bike to confirm this.
You don't have EFI, but you do still have an Electronic ignition control
module.
thats what i was thinking but not to shure, dont they have a module that needs dialed into or hooked up to a laptop. Heard that unless module is bad or mods they are maintnence free?
This forum has tons of info.Do asearch on crane ignitions, Daytona twin tec, these are 2 popular ignitions that let you do what needs to be done with timing, for air cleaners, cams and higher compression, and the biggie pinging. Then do a search on carb. jetting, and how to read spark plugs. You can change pipes, without rejet, but if you do a free flow air filter then you will have to jet the carb. There is alot of info here. A few hours reading will save you alot of money and time.
Thanks for the input. I took off the side cover over the module and there is no adjustment. Also this thing has a mikuni carb on it. Am thinking of putting an S&S on it.
