TF3N's Road King Build Thread
Still waiting on some parts. Quick progress shot:
I picked up my Road King a couple weeks ago. It was way to good of deal to pass up but the color/style wasn't me - felt like I was riding a wannabe cop bike.
(Not mine, but identical - I forgot to take "before" pics)
I stripped the light bar and two tone front fender but it still wasn't me.
I made a few calls and ordered a few parts and here's how she sits today:
Stay tuned

I've seen too many custom paint jobs where when the light hits it just right, you can see a faint "bend" in the finish where the pinstripe was and because I'm going with a semi-gloss finish it'll be more apparent.
My painter is a real do it right kinda guy, so he'd rather go right down to metal and make sure his finish is smooth as glass, rather than ****ing around sanding out the pinstripe and using filler, etc.
He gave me a healthy price break by striping the paint myself, too.
He's doing just a light sand on the side covers, though. No pinstriping there.

It did look good before, there wasn't a scratch on it. The 70 year old I bought it from kept it in great shape. I'm 26 and I prefer mine all black. I'll let my dad be the chrome polisher in the family.

We were originally going with straight matte black on the fenders/tank but I decided to go with something a little glossier. Here he is hitting them with powder before they go into the oven.
As long as there aren't any more delays, I should have it all back together by Friday. The last step is getting my paint guy to match the new fender colour on the tank.
