I've tried both the Harley adjustable backrest and the standard backrest with my stock seat and can't get them to work. They push me too far up on the tank. I'm a bigger guy - 300 lb at 5'10". What options do I have to be back a bit from the tank if using a backrest? Is there anyone else out there that's ran into this particular issue? Any feedback would be great.
6' and 330lbs. I bought a mustang solo wide and with the pillion attached it gives great lower back support and no sliding off the back. I like the looks without the pillion but the comfort with the pillion installed is great. The seat sits you back 1.5" from stock on a SG.
Take your adjustable backrest down to an upholsterer and have him remove a good portion of the padding making it thinner. You'll gain at least 2 inches there. I'm 5'11" at 280 and this seems to work. I do have it adjusted all the way back, but I have a spine protector in my jacket that tends to force me forward a bit. I also had the guy add a handle and an elastic pocket for my wife's cellphone.
