2000 flhtpi 52000 miles, when I go to start it in the morning or if it sits for a couple of days I hit the starter button and it clicks but dosent turn over, hit it again or hold the button and it will fire up. If It has been sitting for a bit I put the charger on it and it will fire right up. Battery has 12.7 volts in it...when at 2000 rpm has 14.2 volts going in....drawing 5.7 milliamps with nothing on...battery was new in july 2014.... I removed and cleaned all terminals and grounding points... so what say you?? Battery? VR? Stator? Starter?...its funny if I put it on the charger and it has over 13 volts it fires right up...also I noticed if I dont run my spots when riding it dosent seem to do it as often... any and all suggestions, opinions appreciated...thanks in advance...
Buy a battery maintainer (not a "charger"), and keep the bike plugged in whenever it's parked in the garage.
My bike is an '07 Road Glide, and it still starts and runs fine with the original factory battery... (because when it's not running, it's "on the maintainer"...)
You might want to pull the battery and have it load tested.
Most auto parts houses will do this for you.
Battery cells can go bad at any time and either completely fail or have a disintegrating failure.
Fishrrman is also correct, IMHO, put it on a "tender" which will maintain it.
A battery "charger" can overcharge a battery and do damage to it internally.
If you bought the battery 'off the shelf' and neglected to slow charge it before installing and starting the bike then all you can expect to get is 1-3 years out of it. The trick is to charge it over 8 hours at no more than 10% of its rated current capacity. This insures 5 years or more of battery life. Installing the battery and starting the bike without doing this will hammer the chemicals and lead plates with a hard charge resulting in instant degradation and premature failure.
I've experienced the same symptoms and the battery has failed. When you get a new one do like Seesaw says charge before use. Fishrrman also has good advice, get a tender.
Thanx for the input guys...I will have it load tested....I do have a battery tender, just a pia to always plug it in when I park...the battery is the big crank from batterymart, online, I think if I remember correctly I just installed it and went, was psyched it started the bike right out of the box probly damaged it right then and there....thanks for the advice, keep u posted

Leave a volt meter on it when firing it up and check to see what it reads when starting it up. Sound like you'll be looking at a voltage drop, i.e., bad battery!

So I replaced with a new battery....still have the SAME PROBLEM!!! I was going to test vr according to manual...took apart the vr connector under the frame and it was full of oil!! Do sent seem normal....I have no leaks....maybe when I change oil it has leaked in there in the past??? My question is if this has oil coating the connectors would that hinder the vr operations??? Haven't ridden it yet but will tonite an update post.....
