Everyone wants the "Harley" sound but it is something different to everyone. True duals will get great sound but you give up some torque. There are some pretty decent slip ons though at the very least I would get rid of the cat. Rinehart will give you loud, Vance and Hines downturns are very deep.
Best advice, when you hear what you like, ask the owner.
You want loud and deep, Dresser duals(any true dual) and the V&H 450 oversized slip ons. Obviously sound is subjective, but they are very deep and just get louder through the RPM's. Never get raspy loud (I hate that sound personally). To me it sounds mean as hell when you get on it. I had RC components 4" and liked them, but the 450's are much deeper and throaty. They are exactly what I wanted. I have had 2 people at bike nights ask if they were CFR's from the sound. Obviously these are all my opinions so take it for what its worth.
Dresser duals/true duals will really wake those cfr' s up! I know from experience. Then, if you still don't think that's loud enough (you're deaf man, lol!), sell off the cfr' s and try something else. The first step is get true duals for sound.
I've got vtwin manufacturing true duals with rush big louie mufflers and they sound fantastic. Had S&S touring mufflers before the rush and those sounded good too, just less volume.
I really the rush read pipes and heat shields too but wasn't in the budget as I'm building a new house. The vtwin manufacturing duals was the cheapest **** I could find, but they work great and sound ****!
The range of opinions here is crazy!! So here is another one, gutting the head pipe will make the Cfrs louder no doubt (been there). As far as a header I really like the rush premium duals 7017ho ceramic and once again it made the Cfrs even louder than the gutted header. Add a set of cams...... Now I'm about ready to consider something new cause my Cfrs are a little louder than I had in mind.....
Another thing to consider is I wouldn't put much weight in the opinion of a Cfr knock off guy. The mufflers are not the same and that's just simply the truth. All the knock offs I've seen measure 4" the Cfrs measure 4.5" that alone will change the tone of the muffler. I heard a set of knock offs just last week on an ultra and to be honest I feel they had a noticeably different sound. Not to mention the junk packing they put in the knockoffs, hell your lucky if it's still in the pipes 500 miles later.

Are you saying you think the 450s are louder than Cfrs? I'm asking because I was considering a set of 450s to tone my bike down a bit.

They are loud yes, BUT only when you want them to be honestly. If you are hard on the throttle they bark. But it is a deep throaty bark(IMO) and not raspy hurt your ears loud by any means. To me, it is a clean loud. When you are cruising as any speed they are pretty mellow. I can here my radio at all time turned 1/2-3/4 volume. They just have a nice rumble when cruising around. I absolutely love them! I can't directly compare them to CFR's, but from the few that I have heard I personally wouldn't say they are louder. FWIW, they registered at 126db with a sound meter 2 feet from the tips(loud pipe contest). And no, they didn't win. lol

These are the exact words I would use to describe my CFRs.
