On my 13 fltrx started out with MGS true duals (loud baffles) these were excellent pipes but just not loud enough (for me). Then went to a 2-1-2 header with CFR's. This was definitely a step backwards, CFR's imo are not loud and kill performance. Now on my 3rd set up and happy to say 100% found what i was looking for D&D boss fat cat (perforated baffles) these ****'s are f*cking loud at idle and cruising, at first I thought dam these are too loud but now will never take them off, excellent fit and finish and super performance, granted I have a s&s 106, headwork, torque cams.
Whomever told you they were the loudest wasn't being truthful. I have had mine for years with V&H PowerDuals. They are deep, but not loud. We do alot of Highway riding so the wife doesn't complain about the noise. I do wish they were louder when I am doing city riding, but otherwise I have been very happy with them.
The CFR's like all megaphone mufflers, even knock offs, amplify the bass notes and behave like open pipes on a dyno. Some including CFR have started changing the baffles initial size or adding deflectors, more aggressive cuts into the baffles and so on, to lower the volume. (or Echo) and help with torque and tuning by adding a smidgen of back pressure.
If your mufflers have removable baffles like every CFR I've seen, you can tune them by tweaking these changes, removing the wrapping, etc.
Or you can sell them to me at a killer price and be done with those crappy mufflers?
so, I have a 2010 Ultra that I took the stock head pipes off and used a stock 2008 head pipe. I wanted the bigger bungs for the tuner I have (Rev Perf EMS) but wanted to keep the 2-1-2 configuration with no cat. I have had CFR's on my bike from the beginning and they have about 25K miles on them. I can say that they have become louder over time. It is a pretty good set up with the older stock head pipes. But they are starting to rust pretty bad on the bottom. I like the sound and I have received many compliments on them.
I have the 4 " Jackpots with competition baffles, and it is the sound I've been looking for, deep rumble and *** kicker when you twist the throttle. Just sayin.
Let me know how that works out for you.. Seriously you might have the best insight to what it is i want to know. You have a head pipe and slip-ons, and you want more sound from the CFR's. please let me know if they produce more sound than your current set-up.
Just installed CFRs with Dragos H-pipe. Have to agree with you, not as loud as I thought they were going to be. Not even sure they are as loud as my jackpots 2-1-2 with V&H twin slash rounds, but damn they sound great. Love the deep tone. Hope they get even louder over time. Youtube videos definitely don't do them justice. BTW, I can't tell any difference in performance, it seemed like it might even be a little better. Maybe it's the H-pipe. Then again, what do I know.
