When you tried to download the mileage by hooking the data link to the new speedo, you did not disconnect the original speedo, did you? Original speedo stays hooked to wiring connector until mileage download to new speedo is done through data link under side cover.
I could be wrong, but I think it reads the mileage from the ECM
Yes I left the old speedo connected during the download process.
Good question but I thought I covered e erything as I followed the directions exactly
Here is a question; Since I tried the download and was unsuccessful, I had the local speed shop try it while the bike was in for the dyno tune. IF, and that is a big IF, they disconnected the old speedo prior to the download, would the mileage show up as zero miles ? They told me it showed 7 miles as soon as the download was complete. I left them the directions and would have hoped they followed them, but people are people and who knows for sure. I sent an email to the owner and head tech asking that very question.
I would guess the download would be unsuccessful if the old speedo wasn't connected.
This whole thing has me just baffled. As I said earlier, the wire harness part #70431-04 and the ECM shows it as a 2005 FLSTFSE. The speedo, part #70900070B is supposed to work. Unless TMCC did something funky to the wire harness which I don't understand why they would, it should work!

GTK, you have me thinking....
Man I went through three of those gauges and couldn't get one to work correctly on my 04' road king. I finally went with the more expensive Dakota Digital speedo/tach and it works perfectly.
i just recieved my new 70900070b speedo/tach combo from ups,for my 2006 FXST. hooked up to ecm with data link (original speedo still connected and in dash) data transfer completed without issue "got the ok signal",disconnected factory speedo and replaced with the new one. now the speedo or odometer will not come on. im still getting power to my ignition switch, turn signals, headlight, netural indicator.its just the speedometer itself not getting any power. fuses are good ,checked those.connection seems to be good... any help is appreciated also now that the new speedo is in place the bike will start but not run. dies after 5 seconds or so even if opening the throttle a bit
Heck I road mine for 10 months changed battery and got the ole VIN ERROR ......and it wouldn't go away ....mileage was all fine hell I didn't do anything but change the battery .... freaking thing would not reset back gauge speedo and tach work it just reads vin error all the time ......grrrrr. I bought another one ,,,,, kept it ..... if I ever find a way to hack into it ...
Hello gentleman...
I've been distracted with "life" but noticed I never posted a resolution to my problem. Although I really like the #70900070B and wish it would/could work, the truth being, it is not compatible with the Screaming Eagle ECM. At least that is what the Harley mechanic said. Fortunately it didn't cost me anything to try it since I bought it and paid them to install it. Being unsuccessful, they couldn't charge me. I ended up replacing my gauge with a replacement 74676-07 and it works great. I even had HD send it in to re set the odometer to match so it's complete now. HD engineering is "something".
