Default Looking over windshield vs looking through windshield for road trips

I've always used w/s I can see over (as recommended by LRS) but after riding to Ruidoso this weekend, 700- 800 miles round trip, I was thinking a taller one might be better for the road. Btw, I had a 9" recurve on and it was between my mouth and my nose during a relaxed position
Opinions please!

You can always hunker down to get under a nose high windshield if needed. But once that tall windshield is loaded with bugs and whatever, you're stuck trying to look through it. LRS gave you solid advice IMO

What type of helmet do you use? You may get different answers if you rock s full face. I personally think looking through is dangerous during night time riding with the possibility of glare. A good recurve shield should protect you and be below your line of sight.

I like the top edge of my windshields to be in the middle of eyes allowing me to see over, but still provide great coverage

We followed a couple down the mountain today. They were loaded up and headed to Sturgis by the look of things. He had a taller shield on his Ultra, and looked through it as he rode. That was fine until the rain started. 2 miles later he was craning his neck to the side, to see around the shield, rather than through it. It looked very uncomfortable, and just a bit unsafe. I was glad when the rain stopped, so he could sit straight again.

I had to take a ama safety class to ride on base in the navy an the instructor said never buy a windshield you can't see over. I like one about chin/nose high but my height changes depending on what seat I'm using.

I went thru three shields, RK, to get the perfect height, 20" to low, 22" to high, 21" was perfect. It's about nose high. I can see over it and my head is out of the wind. On a metric, I tried a tall shield that I had to look thru and hated it at night and in the rain.

I keep my windscreen in good cond cleaning it often and waxing it too so even when it rains i can see thru it pretty good because its not loaded with bugs & not in poor cond either and the wax i keep on it makes the rain fly right off it.

But for guys that dont take care of the windscreen like i often see where the screens are loaded with bugs ,scratches and are at sometimes cloudy looking too from non maint never polishing them with windscreen type compound thats when they are a problem to look thru at any time let alone when raining.

I wouldnt normally ride in the rain at night unless i had to get someplace for a darn good reason.

Thats because since getting my bike license Jan 1972 all those yrs experience riding bikes has taught me a thing or 2 1 of which is riding a motorcycle in the rain at night isnt a good thing to do unless you really have because it's just asking for trouble IMHO.

Running a 10 inch. I see over it by 3 inches.
I'd hate to have to look through one. That why I wear glasses.

There is one good reason for looking over the top of the windshield and not through it. No matter what they do to plastic windshields they are not distortion free. The may be close but not perfect. The forming process will put distortions in the windshield.
