2005 ultra
so I wanted to see how far I could go till the fuel light comes on ,, odometer was reading 201.4 , light never came on ,, getting nervous I pulled in and fill her up 4.82 gals. ,, book says it is a 5 gal tank ,, but what do they really hold ?? at 41 mpg 2/10's of a gal left that only leaves me about 10 miles to find fuel. how far to go after the light comes on ?? how much fuel has anybody put in a 2005 ultra?? light comes on with ignition , so it works there ,, is it triggered by the gauge / or the sender in the tank ??
thanks mike
Slight variations between bikes. If you really wanna dial it in, just top it off as you usually do and run the tank out. Bring one of those saddle bag 1 gal. jugs with you and you will know what your bike does for sure. Too many different variables and riding styles on here to really know what your bike's range is. My 2 cents anyways.... What your riding speeds are make a big difference too - 60 MPH vs. 75 MPH makes a big difference on fuel consumption.
If you put 4.82 gallons in and the light wasn't on, its broken. Even if it goes on when you start the bike. It's busted.
Exactly what I was thinking. My 05 E glide an 02 v rod both come on at 1/4 tank. I would guess I have a gal left in the glide when it comes on an a little more in the V when it comes on (it only has a 3.5 gal tank an barely hold 2 gal).

only two because you probably have a 1 gal reserve
