2005 ultra
so I wanted to see how far I could go till the fuel light comes on ,, odometer was reading 201.4 , light never came on ,, getting nervous I pulled in and fill her up 4.82 gals. ,, book says it is a 5 gal tank ,, but what do they really hold ?? at 41 mpg 2/10's of a gal left that only leaves me about 10 miles to find fuel. how far to go after the light comes on ?? how much fuel has anybody put in a 2005 ultra?? light comes on with ignition , so it works there ,, is it triggered by the gauge / or the sender in the tank ??
sorry, can't help you. i have a 2013 FLHTK that has a 6 gal tank. the fuel light comes on when it says i have 30....or is it 35 miles remaining. i get about 40 mpg regularly and put in about 4.8 - 5.2 gallons after running about 210 miles. does it have a "reserve" valve? sorry, don't know anything about the 2005's, my 2006 102 ci yami had a valve that you could turn when it started sputtering when getting low. not really any extra gas, just pulling from a lower point in the tank.

you're supposed to get about 40 miles (or 1 gal) when the low fuel light comes on. on my 07, the low fuel light came on on my way to work )at 0530 in the morning). i work on post, so i figured i'd just get gas at the shopette. only about 7 miles away. i didn't make it. still had about 2 miles to go when it was completely out. i had already done the 'shake and start' thing a couple of times already.
from then on, i never worried about the low fuel light, but always went by the odometer. 150 on the clock, start thinking, 175, seriously looking for gas. 200, i'm taking whatever gas is available.
