You don't need to cut the old one off on 6 speed bikes as their web site states. "6 SPEED BIKES HAVE A RECESSED AREA on the inside primary case that eliminates the primary work. Take the tightening bolt out and slide the worn out pot metal lever off the shaft. Then install a stainless steel Better Lever, also without the transmission work".

I had the same problem. Replace the Allen bolt with a Grade 8 hex head bolt and it will tighten right up. The little Allen head tends to bite into the lever arm and won't tighten. As stated earlier. A lot of threads on this already.

My mistake! I went to a link that I've seen on another thread and seen a leaver for $ 65. That betterleaver is $ 225 from what i see....
The only other one i looked at was this one for $ 64

While your at it you might as well get a couple of heim joints and replace the ends on your linkage, that makes shifting a complete different operation. That is just my opinion as it worked on my 07 Road King.

I also checked about 5 bikes of my friends and none of theirs seem loose at all. Quess a call to the dealer for a warranty claim is in order.......good luck with that eh ?

Anyone else have this issue and what was the fix ?

By the way it is a 2012 Limited with all but 40,000 miles on the ticker. I do have the extended warranty
The fix was to get in there with a socket And extension outfitted with the correct size Allen.. You can't get enough tq on it with a regular Allen. Get in there with a 3/8 drive socket and ratchet and tighten that bitch down.

Just like you said!
Had a new lever on hand, so when i took the old one off, i got looking at the splines on the old and the new one. Had both under a magnifying glass and i didnt see any wear and tear on the old one at all. Matter of fact, it looked better then the new one. But when the new was on, it was tight and snug without any slop. I'll use something other then OEM next time around.
Thanks madsonp for the tip. Sure made me happy!
