I test drove a 2015 ultra classic Saturday and fell in love. With a zillion used bikes out there, I found a 2012 Ultra Limited near home for $16,000. Test drove it yesterday. Hated it. It felt heavy and I felt unstable on it (physically not mentally.)
Why the difference? isn't it the same bike? Is there any logical explanation? They were equipped more or less the same. When I drove the used bike, the owner had removed the rear seat and the rear luggage compartment, so it should have been lighter.
I owned a 2013 Ultra Limited and traded to the 2015 Ultra Limited. World of difference in handling with the 2015, much better ride than my 2013. They changed the front fork weight and beefed it up, it's heavier up front and makes it handle a lot better, plus more power in the engine makes it feel a bit more nimble I think. Some info on the Rushmore changes:
It's mental, you wanted the 15 anyway, because there is not that much diff.I have a 12 don't like the dash on 14 or 15,test rode one, could not tell that much diff.for the money, still have my 12.All because I do not like the dash on Rushmore.
Traded in my 07 UC for the 15 Limited it doesn't feel lighter but it feels smaller when sitting on it of course handling is lot better good road manners. I was never disappointed with my 07 with 103" Stage II very powerful bike rode the crap out of 97K miles before trading.

Thanks, I forgot about the front forks. I'd say its best characterized as an improvement, I dont think riders of 2012 bikes would call them "unstable" in stock form tho, there must be something else going on.
I have a 12 Ultra Classic and test rode a 15 Ultra Limited. I felt some difference and improvement on the 15, but it was not enough for the trade-in + $$ difference.
