I have a new streetglide 2007 just hit the 1000 mile mark, I love to ride with me highway pegs and the heat is killing me. I am taking it in this weekend for the 1000m checkup. I am thinking of putting on the SERT with a set of Rush slip-ons and high flow air filter. The dealer tells me they can lower the heat on the engine about 80 degree's if I do this. Looking at about 1400.00 for everything. Darn, havent even made the first payment yet and here I go shoveling out more $$$. I dont mind if this will help the heat issue. I have read many reviews just wonder if you all think this is worth it and will it help cool down this engine. Any advice will help... Thanks
I picked mine up yesterday and had them install the Rush slip-on's, SE A/C, and installed the Vance & Hines Fuelpak before I even left the dealer. Could not roll out sounding like a moped...lol.. For those three items I paid right at $1000 installed. You could install the items your self if you go with the Fuelpak and save the $350 for installation of these items. The Fuelpak is not the best tunner but if you don't plan on doing engine work like cams or bigbore kit then it will work great and get rid or the lean condition. If you do plan to get into the engine then the SERT or PCIII is the way to go. I do not plan on doing any further engine mods and really like the fact that the Fuelpak uses the o2 sensor's and my dealer insured me that the fuelpak was the least warranty intrusive way to go since they can not even get ahold of a SERT right now.
You may also check into a heat sheild of some type. RJ originals puts out a nice one. I thinkI will go with it. The ones that hd makes and kuryakyn are nice too, but made of plastic, and plastic breaks. A lot of '07 riders also went with dual exhaust to help with the heat issue. The heat issue, if you are not aware, is caused by the bike being set to run to lean. It has to be done this way to pass the EPA guidlines. A SERT or pcIII will help with this also. Once you go get the oil done, if you don't plan on doing it, for the 2500 mi or the 5k switch to synthetic. I personally am waiting until my 5k to switch, but that too will help with the heat. Some say to have an oil cooler installed, and others say it wont help. I have made the decision to NOT put one on, but if you have the cash, you might consider it. For me, I would rather spend the cashola on other chrome goodies. But that just might be me.
