Default Fairing lowers question

I want to put fairing lowers on my 15 RG.
I find aftermarket ones for less than half of HD ones.
My question is if I can fit the older design lowers in my '15?
The engine guard looks exactly the same as 2010 SG I had.
I realize I would have to trim the cap a little bit to clear the shark nose mounting bracket. other than that, it looks like the older ones will work on my '15.
Am I missing something??

One of the first thing I put on my '14 SG was Matazu lowers off of ebay. The old style lowers fine but mine are a little loose on the top of the crash bar.

Try looking up the part number for the engine guard on a 15 and a 13 SG and see if it's the same. If they are the lowers should fit. I've has Mutazu lowers for a couple of years without any issues.

I had my set of '09 lowers in the shop when I totalled my FLHX. Put them on my '15 RG without too much issue, just had to trim the cap a bit to clear the faiting supports. The older vented fairing have a ton more vent than the new '14+ BTW

No, your not not missing anything. I took the lowers from my '95 and installed them on my '15 RG, had to cut a slot to clear the fairing mount and notched the top a 1/4 inch to clear the fairing, very pleased

I suppose that "if you had to notch the top to clear the fairing" they must fit pretty nicely with the shark nose, w/o much gap in between at all.

So the wind protection by adding the lowers is pretty huge, yeah?

I'm still waiting for a few things I have listed on eBay to sell and once that's sold, I know I'll be ordering the lowers for sure!
I didn't think I'd mind, but I had lowers on my previous 2 bikes,
Not only that, I got rained on HARD on my way home from a dealer the day I picked up my RG. My legs were SOAKED and I wished I had the lowers.....

Yeah, they fit. As mentioned, you need to trim just a touch to get them to clear the Fuglys. That being said, as I have posted many times, the Mutazu lowers work, but they are not the same quality as the Moco lowers. If you want BLACK, they are a bargain. If you intend to spend the extra money to get them painted, I recommend buying used Moco lowers and hardware and having them painted. Just getting the Harley hardware is worth it. The Mutazu hardware literally is unusable. Not kidding about that either. Unusable.

I've seen the less expensive aftermarket ones that a buddy of mine bought a few years ago and I wasn't impressed with the quality compared to Harley OEM.

I found a used set of vented lowers in the right color (Black Denim) on eBay.
and I got them for a good price.

I received them today and after installing the magnetic doors on them,
I just finished installing them on my '15 RG. They fit PERFECTLY without any modification at all. Although I read here people had to trim this and that, mine didn't need any mods at all (the sticker inside the glove box showed Manufactured in 2011)
The part of the caps that goes over the engine guards were short to begin with.
I've seen longer ones (the used one I had on my 2010 SG was long), so I guess the older ones have longer "stem" but the newer ones from HD are short which fits RG.

I'm ready to take it for a test ride, so I gotta go! lol

Thank you for those who gave me valuable info before my purchase of the lowers!
