Default First time on the Dyno

Went to a local event yesterday where they had a dyno set-up. As the evening progressed (and we consumed more adult beverages) my bud's were busting on me to put my CVO Road King on the dyno. I bought the bike recently "turn-key", it's been modded some, but I really don't know all the engine details.

We watched for about an hour, then I gave in. To that point most of the bikes were making between 60-75hp and 70-85tq. Some had engine work, and all of them had aftermarket pipes for sure.

Made three pulls on my Road King and all three were 101-103hp and 103-105tq with a torque curve as flat as Kansas. I was pretty pleased and the dyno operator was pretty impressed as well.

I'm not sure if the numbers were "corrected", because he mentioned that it would do better with better air, and last night it was pretty hot and "sticky".......Cliff

I just bought a turn key 12 CVO, I dont know what it has I believe it is stock, but it pulls really good, and after coming from a stage 4 103 I am impressed how this runs. Of course I still want to remove the cat and install a TTS. Any you guys have a suggestion of a good cam to perk up a 110, without doing a top end build?
Sort of want to keep the ext. warranty in tact even if I have to stay with SE cams. Any suggestions?

Remove the cat and do a good tune first, you may find the SE 255's are enough. they fall off at 4500 rpms, but they are ripping between 2500-4500.

My Road King is a 2002, originally came with a 95 CID engine, but the right side engine cover says "103" on it. Beyond having the 103 side cover and compression releases added to the heads, I don't know any details about the engine build.

It lopes pretty good at idle, and has a strong/broad power curve, as was verified by the dyno sheets. The torque curve is "flat", going up over 100ft lbs pretty early in the rpms range and staying there thru the pull.

The engine is very well tuned, and gets better fuel economy than any other bike I've owned to date, which really surprises me because of the power level.

The biggest negative with the engine is valve train noise, it sounds like a "meat grinder" between 2000 and 3000rpm's!......Cliff
