Got a question about Synthetic Oils. I have about 7k on my motor (stock). I am considering switching to Synthetic from Dyno oil. Should I break my motor in a bit more before the switch? And is there a problem with leaving a small amount of dyno oil (whatever will not drain out during the change) and adding Synthetic? Thanks in advance.
you can switch to Synths once the rings have had a chance to seat, and to tell you the truth, with the materials they are using today I don't even know if seating the rings or breaking in an engine is even an issue.
Old habits are hard to break I guess. My last Harley lasted 17 years (still running strong) useing HD 20-50.
I think synthetics are way over-rated but what do I know.I use HD 20W/50 and I live in a hot desert area, in fact one could say one of the hottest, if not the hottestin the U.S. and I don't have any problems with using Dino oil.
Just put it in and go...the whole break in thing is such a load of crap. Your engine was broken in within the first 50 miles. Also don't use HD's over priced Syn3...it's crap too.
Mobile 1 20/50 for the engine and primary and Mobile 1 75/140 in the transmission...you'll be happy trust me on this one.
I just changed from syn3 to Mobil 1 20w50 full syn. 10000 miles on an 06 Ultra. Gained about 8/10 psi on oil pressure. was 24/26 now34/36. Bike has had low pressure since new. Use Mobil 1 in primary also and Redline Shockproof in transmission,
