Can a too tight primary chain cause drivability problems?
I'm still chasing that wobble problem on my SG. I'm wondering if the primary chain could be the cause if it's too tight?
I took the bike to the dealer tonight and left it. Of course they will probably say all is normal.
Before I dropped it off I was looking at the back tire, there was some road dust on the thread it looked like the footprint was off center to the right. Is this possible?
RE: Can a too tight primary chain cause drivability problems?
I'm not a mechanic, but, to answer your question: I don't think so.
My primary chain was tight. When I took my bike in for it's 1000 service (to my indy mechanic) he asked me if I had monkeyed around with my primary chain. I told him all that I had done was change the fluid, and asked him why he wanted to know. He said that the primary chain was "bearing-eating tight". That's how it came from the factory and it did not cause any driveability problems, like wobble. At least nothing that I noticed during the first 1000 miles.
