Change both front and rear tires and brakes at 20,000 and again at 40,000.
Could have easily squeezed a few more thousand out of the rear and possibly another 5,000 out of the front but the howl of the rear tire makes me crazy. Dealer charges me $200 labor if I do everything at once. Well worth the money in my opinion.
$200 labor? What did he charge for the tires? I just had both tires replaced on my '15 Limited with stock dunlops D407 and 408 for $455 out the door.
I suppose you can come up with some kind of average... but its pointless because not everyone rides using the same variables.
A 400lb man, riding the south west... trying to figure out what tires to purchase from a guy who lives near canada and weighs 180 is pointless.
+1
I totally agree. I weigh around 180. My bike (2013 LTMD) is usually pretty loaded down for most my miles. I get a safe 15K on the rear. Both with the original Dunlop, and American Elite. I could squeeze a thousand or two more out, but just change it while I'm pulling my service. Rather have good rubber,& not have to worry about it.
I had the stock Dunlop's changed at 18.5k couldn't stand the howling anymore and was leaving for a trip around Lake Mich.& Superior, couldn't agree more about road conditions and tire wear, don't forget about tire pressure a few lbs.low can really eat up a good tire.I'm trying the commander 2s really quite and much softer ride so far.Riding a14 Ultra
I put a set of American Elite2's on my 2007 Ultra last fall. I don't race around but don't baby it all the time. a lot of 2 up riding. air pressure kept at 40lbs. I did Sturgis this year and noticed that while riding in Wyoming and Montana the road surfaces seemed rougher. I got 10,190 miles on the rear and just replaced with another American Elite but I noticed they dropped the 2 from the name.
Here are pictures of the Old Tire and Old and New together. I guess after seeing all the higher miles listed i was hoping to get at least 14 to 15K oh well I do like the ride. Maybe try Mechlin Commander 2's next time.
