true , very true..... the windshield height recommendation is just what the industry says is correct... you of course can do what ever you like....as far as the new bikes being to tall or to short... i think that would be up to each individual owner to correct depending on their height and personal preference... but again im just expressing the standard, kind of like tire pressure...each rider can and will do whatever ....
I've only been riding for a little over 50 years the last 39 have been spent looking thru my windshield w/o any problems or bug/rocks/rain hits. I had no idea I've been doing it wrong all this time....

DITTO!
Been riding on the street every yr for the past 44+yrs and got tired of eating pebbles - rocks / bee's-hard shell beatles & bugs in general / Rain and even a bird here & there which is why i went to windscreens i looked thru which took care of all those issues that lower windscreens below forehead / eye lvl don't always block.
But during riding season I do take the time (less then 5 mins) to clean and wax the windscreen as needed which is why i dont have any problems looking thru it dry or in rain that fly's/runs off it due to being clean & waxed.
When bike is in off season i take 15-20mins to use proper compound for windscreens to buff and then polish most small scratches and dings out of it for the up coming season.

I've spent more years riding while looking through a windshield than looking over it. There is nothing wrong with it.
Would you all agree that the factory puts on windshields on bike when new more for looks than functionality? My 13 RGC has a small 6"high screen. It does not stop a dam thing from hitting me - but looks cool!! And it's factory. I have a 14" high when the weather is cold.
I look right over the edge if anybody cares. Fine with me. My preference...
It's funny.... you know who says you HAVE to look over the windshield???? People who sell windshields. You know who says you can look through the windshield? People who sell motorcycles.
