All - I've an '07 EG and I recently had a "no brake light" problem. The headlight relay was clicking and I had already tried a new tail light and that did not fix it. While the left cover was off, I was fiddling with the wiring harnesses just to make sure nothing looked bad.
I was able to wiggle the harness that leads up to some kind of relay that is right behind the battery, slightly left and in a square rubber grommet looking thing. Wiggling that harness close to the relay made the back light work. So, I took it apart and cleaned all of the connections and all has been good.
Well, I got to thinking that I should probably replace that thing. What is that relay called? I can't find reference to it anywhere. It seems that brake light power goes through it after the brake relay - that makes no sense to me to have another relay in the same route to the back light.
What the heck is it called? I want the peace of mind of a new one.
Brake relay Part # 31586-07 (or you can go to an Auto parts store and buy the equivalent.) Just make certain to point out that you need a relay with a diode for your bike. About $10 either way.
I replaced all of mine a couple of years ago just for good measure too.
I don't think it's the brake relay. That's smaller and fits into the fuse panel. This is larger and has more wires. It fits into the rubber grommet that actually has two square holes in it. Only one of my squares is occupied - and it's by this larger relay looking thing. You can hear the brake relay in the fuse panel clicking when the bike is off and you squeeze the lever. That part works OK even though I'll replace it once I figure out what this other thing is.
I believe that number to be correct for the brake. The microfische (Ronnies,) calls for that number for both the brake and starter. The other relay, that my '00 runs is 31504-91B, is for my ignition and brake both and that may be what you're running. (That one fits under the seat.)

Hope that helps.
I had an '00 Ultra Classic and, if I remember right, it had both the starter and brake relay plugged into the fuse panel under the left cover. I have looked at Ronnies and it shows that my bike should have them both plugged into the fuse panel - but it doesn't. Oh well, the flash on the camera picked up what looks like an "ignition relay" part number so I can get a new one from that I guess. I still don't understand why that could possibly effect the rear brake light.
