Hello everyone. I'm looking to have my vivid black road king classic painted. I love black but it's just too much damn work to keep it clean. You can see every little scratch or swirl. Should I go with a black pearl or flake? Or should I change the color completely? My goal is to have a paint color that won't show every little imperfection. Thanks in advance!
for the future, get one of the california car duster brushes to remove dust and grit inbetween washings
NEVER use a buffer machine or any abrasive "cleaner", treatment etc.
careful that your rags and sponges don;t pick up dirt and brake dust from the wheels, then grind that into the paint.
I use different washing stuff including bucket for painted stuff vs chassis
and any quality wax, wax is good it keeps crap from sticking to teh paint
black is the fastest colour, but go with what your eye likes.
white/light grey are pretty forgiving- but not so interesting to look at

Thanks for the reply. I want to get away from vivid black I think. I know silver is very forgiving...owned one for 5 years and never saw a mark on it, not even in the sun! Do you think black pearl or flake will suit my needs?
I am def a fan of black, but my street glide is pewter denim, basically flat silverish and it hides dust really really well. I live down a 1/2 mile gravel road so I struggle with keeping my bike clean.
I use Maguiar's Tech Wax spray almost daily. A quick spray and rub with clean microfiber cloth will help dirt to just slide off and maintain that clean bike look. Now that I have denim black I just use the denim paint cleaner from harley after every ride. Takes less than 5 minutes.
Any idea how much a re-paint would even cost? Seems way to pricey to be worth it to me.
Black is black whether there's a flake or pearl in it. It's not going to fix your problem. Dark colors in general are going to show more than lighter color.
Thanks for all the replies. I know dark colors are tough to keep clean, I just wasn't sure if a flake or metallic would help. It's not the dust that bothers me so much as the scratches and swirls
silver is great for not showing the dirt. surprisingly, so is white. personally, while i love the look of a black, i'd never own one for just the reasons you point out. good luck i know is hard to make that decision sometimes. you are going to wait till winter right, when the majority of the riding season is done...lol
Yup just did a repaint on mine....black to pearl white.....
Feels like a new bike and its not that bad with just plain dust.
Go ahead just do it....
( cost to repaint..... tank/2 fenders/2 side panels/2 hard bags/ trunk / 2 lowers/ removable fairing.....$1200.....but i had to take off and put back on the bike )
