So I'm high-tailing it home from Fort Morgan CO to Minneapolis....a nice 830 miles jaunt :/ when there goes my shifting in the middle of BFE South Dakota on the Res. Anyway.....I managed to Zip tie it back together, but for the life of me, I can't "fix" it. It's the part that's the front of the shifter that has the splines on it, if that makes sense??? The main bolt that goes into the housing.....I can't figure out if I lost a bolt or something, but I can't get it to tighten down. I'm pretty sure I will just be getting some heim joints and doing the mods I read up on here in the past as this happened to my 03 several times.

If the socket fell off the ball, tie wrap it and go until you find a dealer. They are not fixable. Last one I replaced cost $19at Harley. An after market with the Heim joints was about $180. I will say that I tie wrapped the new one to keep vibes down to make it last longer, up to you!!!
Not sure how well this pic shows it.... I guess it doesn't really, but the bottom right of the pic, where the main bolt goes thru....on the other side of the linkage (bottom joint).....am I missing a part? For the life of me, can't figure out if I'm missing something or I just can't get the clamp opened up to snug on the spindles....regardless, bike goes in next Wednesday for a speaker that blew and will have them fix it. Will likely be ordering the heim joints tho ASAP.
There should be a groove machined around the splined shaft that the shank of the bolt slides through to align the lever. Push the lever on til you can see the groove then insert the bolt and tighten. You may have to push or brace the back side of the shaft to achieve this.

Okay....thanks, it just really doesn't want to seat. I think I may have to brace the back an then use a rubber mallet to get it to work.
On my 2012, my shifter link broke just as I was leaving the NC mountains. Popped right off and I was not able to repair it. I had to get a tow. The stock ones are made of aluminum. Why won't Harley make them chrome, especially since this is a constant known problem.
For the life of me I can not figure why we pay 30 to 50 G's for our Harleys and MoCo keeps putting this POS on the shifter. I know, I know, so they can sell us a new one.
