Default Bel-Ray Tranny Fluid

Went to the shop today and got the stuff I need to do a tranny lever fix. I have been running Mobil One in all three holes and my bike runs like a top. The guy at the shop suggested I use Bel-Ray 85W-140 in the tranny. He said this is the top of the line in tranny oil.

Since I'm no mechanic I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with this oil.

Oil is oil, if its gonna break its probably not because of the brand. I run RedLine, needed a complete new gearset at 44,000 miles. Mainshaft problem with an 07 six speed.

I use and prefer GL-5 in the transmission vs engine oil. I don't run any special brand, usually Lucas or Valvoline 85W-140. Have done that in all four of the Touring bikes that I've owned with zero issues with the transmissions in any of them.

A good friend has an 07 six speed and his transmission was pretty noisy, so bad in a couple of the gears he was ready to push it down over a hill! I recommended that he replace the syn3 with 85W-140 and he did. Shut the thing up pretty good, and so far it's still going strong for over 30,000 miles.......Cliff

Been using it for a few years; no issues with it at all. I change all 3 holes every 5k miles, when the engine is due.

One major benefit with using gear oil in the gear case is that when you develop a leak there's no mistaking it for Mobil1!

FWIW, Mobil1 in the engine, Rev Tech in the primary, and Bel Ray in the tranny.
All distinctly different color, weight, and smell. Easy to trace leaks.

I run the Belray 85/140, also recommended by the local HD dealer.

Don't drive yourself nuts with this oil, lube stuff.
20/50 oil and 45/140 gear lube are pretty close to the say . They measure them differently.
Keep in mind in HD transmissions the lube is designed to hit the top and flow down.
heavy lubes may not effectively lube it in all conditions.
I know riders that ride a lot and have used nothing but syn 3 in all holes and never had an issue. Same results with many other lubes.
in the end it just does not madder.
just trade my RGU in for a new one 50K on it changed oil 4-5 K primary every 8-10K trans about every 15-20. Not ever a problem with it. Same with the last 4 I have put a good amount of miles on. Current owner of my 2007 has 85K on it he purchased it with 65K on .
There is no magic oil or lube their is no point in changing it to often. but if it it makes you feel good and helps you sleep go for it.

redline heavy shockproof, dealer carries around here so there's no problem getting it.

Default Gear Oil

Use what you want but you need to use gear oil in the trans. It is heavier weight than motor oil and will cling to the gears better than motor oil. It quiets a noisy trans and takes a lot of the "clunk" out of shifting gears. I don't use Bel-Ray now but I used to and it is good stuff.

An advantage of bel rey, or other gear oil, you can change every 10k miles due to it being in a noncombustible environment.
