a bad battery can take out the VR and/or stator ( and the damage may not be obvious right away)

even a bad battery cable can take out all three of the above.
you need another shop with a tech who knows how to deal with electricity and understands how the system works without cracking a book..
document every service visit, complaint and charge. demand and keep any removed parts-
if the 12 year old down your street ( or another shop) finds the fault...show up with you paperwork and demand that they refund your costs.
the offer "Professional Services" and if they cannot effect a service, they shouldn;t be paid like a professional
