What a crazy design man! Just finished putting the long shot duals on the SG the other night. WAAAY to f'in loud. So I call around and find a HD dealer that has the quiet baffles in stock. Come home last night figuring it will be a 5 minute 2 set screw deal..slide the old out and new in.
WRONG.
Some engineer in their infinite wizdumb decided to put the set screws that hold the baffle in the pipe UNDER the 360* part of the chrome heat shield. So that means you have to remove the whole left side exhaust to remove the heat shield to get at the screw. On the right side you could leave the exhaust on, but still have to remove the heat shield. NOW, if the set screw were moved up another 2" to the location of the exhaust that only has 220* of chrome heat sheild coverage removal of the exhaust would not be necessary. Needless to say I was aggrevated that such a simple thing took me 3 beers and an hour instead of 5 min. OK, done venting.
Thats just flat out crazy....at least you had three beers. Yesterday I had two beers left and thought I could wash my ride in that much time. Nope...washing a dyna (traded it in) vs a EG Classic is a lot more detailed for two beers. Oh well we all learn. HAGO! Remi
So, since you have heard the V&H Long Shots with the stock baffles and with the quiet baffles what is your opinion of difference the exhaust sound?
Yeah I could wash my heritage on two beers but the dang egc is a four beer job plus it seems to get dirty a lot easier than the squishy tail...Back to the v&h your lucky I had straightshots they dont even make baffles that fit them other than original replacements, had to get rid of em and went to roadhouse brand two into one looked good on the heritage...
Can't speak for the long shots but on my old straight shots the quiet baffles didn't help much witht he volume but did a nice job of deepening the tone. It was still loud but not in an altogether bad way.
Big Shot Duals are a little quieter - no quietbaffle needed. I love the sound. Its there when I want it - and quiet enough when I need it to be too! Have gotten many compliments by other riders since I've had'em on.
Yea, I was very surprised the whole exhaust had to come off to change the baffles!
Well that was my next comment. The stock baffles, if you even wanna call them that are wicked (massachusetts term) F'in loud!! The "quiet" baffle (joke name) is just F'in loud!
I really love the look, but I think after 2-3 hrs of riding these puppies are coming off! I'm wondering if I can get another baffle and make it work with these pipes or somehow mod this quiet baffle to be quieter. Now, these could be fine on a stock stg 1 88". With the 98" and headwork, it's loud, I think I'll get hassled too much by the cops the way it sits.
Gonna make another post and see if mod'in these baffles will work.
have the fishtail slipons on my 05 RK, std baffle I thought was way to loud compared to my pythons. got quiet baffles made a big differnce. std baffle 1-10 is a 9 quiet baffle is 6. deeper tone. after dynoing bike it ran better with std baffle which i put back in and now after 2 weeks its not so loud. bob
