I'm confused too. Although, the evidence cited sounds a lot more like a learned sales pitch rather than actual experience with comparing Ohlins emulsion with Ohlins separated on the same bike.

What is the number on the OEM shocks you took off? Would you want to ship them north to a guy who wants 11.5 shocks to replace the 13's?

I highly doubt you will ever have to change the oil or rebuild them. Unless you find one leaking. While I haven't run Ohlin's on my bike yet, I have run them for years on my Nascar Modified. Never any worries. We would rebuild them every off season and change the oil, but they never needed it. We would dyno them before and after a season, always the same. The oil was never dirty either. I'm thinking, They took a hell of a lot more abuse, than a bike will give them.

here is a link to the Ohlin site listing their shocks, and if you click on the camera icon to the right, a picture. There is a bit of info n their shocks too.

I have the Ohlins HD 159's on back and the FKC-101 cartridges on front. It has significantly improved the comfort and performance on my 12 CVO Ultra. I went with a lighter spring on 159's.

I ordered the fork cartridges from Brian at Fuelmoto. Great guy, great customer service. The first thing Brian did was the verify the exact bike I had and to assure me I could call anytime if I had any questions at all.

I had great customer service at Ohlins Technical also.

For me the expense of the Ohlins 159's (I paid $791 shipped from Hardracing) was well worth it, because they are great quality and will probably last the life of the bike, and you can always take them off and put on your next bike as well.

With Ohlins shocks it revealed the weakness of the pre-Rushmore front end. Now with the cartridges the bike is balanced, no diving, and I'm able to set the 159's to a softer compression & rebound and still have great stability in the turns & rough roads. also I can really maximize the front brake in sudden braking, without worrying about dive and instability.

(Note: The linked braking & 49mm forks in the Rushmore's would seem to allow you to maximize the front braking capabilities, as well or perhaps better. Moco is still putting crap shocks on back of the Rushmore's though.)

While they may be described as an entry level shock for Ohlin's, they are a huge improvement over anything stock. You are correct, for the large majority of riders they are all you need and you would hardly feel the difference between those and the most expensive Ohlins makes. But if you are 2 up, loaded, and traveling long distances on far from perfect roads on a frequent basis, then the upper level Ohlins show their metal. Or, if you are one of the few that just has to have the best....

Roadblock,

The shocks I took off were the standard Harley 12 inch air shocks that came on the 2011 Street Glide. I don't need them so you are welcome to them for the cost of shipping. Drop me a private message with your address and I'll weigh them up and see what it will cost to send them to you.

BTW, They only have 7,000 miles on them.

I bought the 2-2As from Howard and after I worked on the sag I could not ask for a better ride on my new Roadglide CVO.Wife and I rode about 8oo miles in the Smokies last week and the shocks are awesome.I can only imagine how the more expensive ones must be as I have no complaints with these.

I purchased the same shocks as PTAG for my 10SG a few years back at the Ohlins booth at Black Hills HD during the rally. Had been looking at them for awhile and was on the fence about which ones to purchase, they let me test ride both sets overnite that I was considering. I couldn't feel enough difference between the separated and the emulsion to justify the extra $$. I ride solo 100% and have racing experience and know what a properly set up shock feels like. As far as rebuilding them goes I've put more than 30k on them so far without any leakage or issues.

I put my first 250 miles on the new shocks today. I left them set as I received them from Ohlins. They are better than stock but I knew they would be. I can feel the font end will need something at some point but not that bad so it will stay like it is for a while. I am planning on playing with the preload after I get 500 miles on them. I think I can get them to smooth out a little better than they are not but just not going to mess with them until they get the miles on them.

Are they night and day different? Not sure I can say that at this point. Need more time. When I got this bike it had a Sundowner seat on it. The seller also gave me the stock seat in the box so I thought I would try it. Sat on it before I left and it really sat low and felt good so I left it on. After about 75 miles my rear end was getting sore and making it hard to keep my mind on the shocks. The rest of the ride I was miserable. My **** was hurting so bad I couldn't enjoy the ride. Nothing on the bike feels good hen you are hurting. Got home and put my Sundowner back on. I'll ride some more this week and see what I think. I shouldn't have changed 2 things at once. Especially since I hadn't ridden with the stock seat before. I also have another bike that is a Honda and have a Mustang seat on it. just love it. I may have to break down and get one for the SG.
