I think I can get them to smooth out a little better than they are not but just not going to mess with them until they get the miles on them.

Are they night and day different? Not sure I can say that at this point. Need more time. When I got this bike it had a Sundowner seat on it. The seller also gave me the stock seat in the box so I thought I would try it. Sat on it before I left and it really sat low and felt good so I left it on. After about 75 miles my rear end was getting sore and making it hard to keep my mind on the shocks. The rest of the ride I was miserable. My **** was hurting so bad I couldn't enjoy the ride. Nothing on the bike feels good hen you are hurting. Got home and put my Sundowner back on. I'll ride some more this week and see what I think. I shouldn't have changed 2 things at once. Especially since I hadn't ridden with the stock seat before. I also have another bike that is a Honda and have a Mustang seat on it. just love it. I may have to break down and get one for the SG.
==============

Thanks for the info and dont forget to update us when you get more miles on the shocks and tweak them for best perf to see how they feel to you then vs stock air shocks.

BTW,dont forget HD lets you try seats for free all day long and i just tried the hammock (SP?) seat on my 09 flhtcu and it felt just as good or a bit better then the mustang super touring seat currently on the bike.

The internal suspension the Hammock seat has really tamed the back breaking shock the stock airshoks give me on my bike when i hit moderate to larger bumps/potholes/heaved up road from last winter when riding in back country roads in upper NY state.

When i reinstalled the mustange super touring seat to go home and hit the 1st few larger bumps it was really apparent just how good the hammock seat isolated / reduced the shock the stock HD rear air shock suspension delivers.

Next spring am going to test ride the hammock seat again with the wife on the for an afternoon / 4-5 hrs starting with a full tank ,full tummy's and empty bladders to see how much better it is then the mustang super touring seat .

And if its considerably better them the mustang super touring seat i will buy it at that point.

Dont get me wrong ,the mustang super touring seat is a lot better then the stock seat was .

Andi also tried an ultimate seat on my bike too that the i felt the hammock seat also beat out though the ultimate was significantly better then the stock HD seat was on my 09 flhtcu.

So try HD's Hammock seat out on your bike for free from your local HD dealer before buying a new Mustang seat because you have nothing to loose.

BTW, They only have 7,000 miles on them.

But if you are 2 up, loaded, and traveling long distances on far from perfect roads on a frequent basis, then the upper level Ohlins show their metal. Or, if you are one of the few that just has to have the best....
IMHO the CVO models should come with top shelf Ohlins, or their equivalent. Then the Harley world will wake up to what can be achieved, instead of making do with the mediocre suspension we have to put up with! No Harley bagger should come with 'entry level' suspension.

Default Update

It's been a while since I got my shocks so I thought I would report my progress.

When I got the shocks I rode 250 miles on them. They felt good but not as good as the "day and night" everyone was reporting. I decided it was time to try something so I took 2 turns out of the pre-load. Doesn't sound like much but two turns is enough to see which way I was headed. I have a long sweeping turn that the stock shocks couldn't handle I have been using for testing. When I took the two turns out I knew real quick I went the wrong way. I went home, put the 2 turns back in and rode my sweeper again. All back to where I was. Went hop and didn't have time to mess with it until today.

At this point the shocks were set as I had received them from Ohlins. I had just installed my Rocker Lockers" and was getting ready for a test ride so I added 2 turns to the pre-load and went for a ride. Wow!! Now I feel what others are feeling. These are great. I am not done but pretty darn close. I may need to take a half turn off the pre-load but since my wife rides with me from time to time I may just leave them alone. I did put some wire ties on the shafts but haven't looked at them since this last ride.

I am really satisfied with the results. $600 well spent but sure makes me wonder what the higher rated/priced shocks will do. Only one way to find out

The "night and day" difference will be there when you upgrade your front suspension. I just got off a stock 2015. I did like the engine and brakes but could not stand the ride compared to my suspension.

Its really sad when you buy a 20 thousand dollar M/C and you have to put 1500 in suspension and 3500 in motor to get the bike right . I have a thirteen SG and getting ready to do the same . Please keep us updated with the Ohlins

I figured the front will come in due time. Just trying to decide if I want to do that or the compensator first.

Indecided they were a little stiff with 2 turns addd so I took one turn off. Amazing how much difference one turn of preload makes. I think I have it now. Led a ride today about 200 miles of twisties in east Texas and didn't reallize Incould corner so good

I can see at some point I will want to do the front. I looked at the progressive site and don't see where the monotubes are available for a 2011 touring bike. I hope I am just not looking in the right place since that appears as what most of you use.

Do the front. You will be again amazed at the change.
