I have a Road King Classic 2009 which I have owned from new fitted with Profile Laced Chrome wheels. 18 months ago the rear wheel developed rust both on the rim and the spooks, the rust on the rim caused the chrome to crack and start to peel off. I replaced both wheels with laced Stainless Steel rims and spooks they look great and no more problem with rust. However, recently I had 6 spooks on rear wheel break at the hub. It seems Stainless Steel spooks are not as strong as steel ones. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Many thanks for comments. I don't know if the spokes were over tightened which I guess could have caused the problem. What is best way to check the correct tightness of the spokes ??
over or under tightening can cause broken spokes - the manual has the torque value for the nubs but I'm at work and can't look it up. they should all 'ring' when struck with a screwdriver blade
