Bought a set used i must say big improvement over the HD premium shock that i thought were not that great.a little pissed with progressive put the shocks on and have detachable backrest everything went together fine but was alittle tight getting the detachable hardware back on but all went together any ways took out for long ride only to find the the backrest mounting bracket was hitting the top of the shock and making alittle groove alittle pissed.Went to progressive site was looking at the instructions installed correctly anyways i took the shocks off and mounted them upside down every thing went back together and lots of clearance now and ride great so heads up if you have deatchable backrest mount shocks updown just like the new 944 shocks
good tip and I like that you didn't boast. How much did you end up shelling out for the used set?
I know this much... I have read posts where folks have spent the 6 bones on 944s and then remark about how its like riding a waterbed that your ***** are just cradled in beautiful softenss (being slightly dramatic and facetious).
Are they better. Sure. worth 6 bones... I dunno about that. Maybe if I had back work done... I'd chase every possible aspect to cushion the ride.
i paid 325 and well they arent top of the line shocks like ohlins i did find the ride alot better than the hd premium i had on and as far as tip on mounting just thought if i could save some guys some trouble why not.I searched it and i saw guys were adding spacers and some guys were grinding down a bit of the mounting bracket so this would save alot of hassles

But the question then becomes: will they still work correctly as time goes by?
Dont see why not the 444 is almost the same shock as the 944 same internals just the 944 is a 12 inch shock that has the travel of a 13 inch and the instruchtions on 944 say to mount shocks upside down if detachable back rest is used so i think it will be fine.I see no difference in the ride
Good post. I have been thinking of trying the 444's. I currently have super Shox and the ride is stiff. Some of the bigger dips and raised seams still are harsh. Can you elaborate on the type of ride you are getting with the 444's being more specific?
Also for those looking to buy new if you do a google search you can find them as low as $445.
Btw, how much do you weigh and what spring rate did you get?

well i am 240 gf is 140 and i have the heavy springs i find the ride more firm like i feel more planted to the road and bumps that used to jar my back are now smoother put heavier oil in the front forks and i cant really complain about the ride.Gf noticed it right away all in all i would say for the price i got them for they are decent and for me i dont see a need to change them to a more expensive shock.I know alot of people will say there are alot better shocks out there and i will agree with that but for me this is just fine.
Shocks are hit an miss which is shitty cause you spend a good buck on shocks and what works for one guy might not for someone else i guess thats why you see alot of shocks up for sale.
