Depends on how paranoid you are. The cruise is turned off by: the front brake switch, the rear brake switch, the clutch switch if you have one or the ECM if it sees a sudden engine rpm change, the cruise on/off switch on the left switch box AND when the machine is turned off. If those still aren't enough ways to turn off the cruise or you just plain want the roll off function, buy the parts. For me, that roll off function is just a spare part.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. I'm used to using the brake to cancel the cruise so, I may just hold off for a while but, I'm kinda **** about things, want everything the way it is supposed to be so, will probably replace it at some point. Right now, I just wanna ride.

Is your bike an ultra? If it is an Electra glide standard they didn't come with cruise, The Electra Glide classic didn't come with cruise either.

however, I had a 04 Classic and I bought the Cruise set up and installed it my self in 05 - worked great and a very easy install - all plug and play...
Major problem here is that the OP says the cruise did NOT work when he bought it from a Private Party... that right there may be a large red flag... the seller may have been as honest as the day is long OR the seller may have sold a 'story' I am hoping for the OP here that its an easy fix... not sure what a cruise set cost today... back when I bought it,,, it was in the area of 400
