I was in your same shoes a year or so back. I converted my '08 Street Glide to a Road Glide. Best money spent on a "new to me" bike. I had way more in my Street Glide than I cared to part with, but wanted a Road Glide. The conversion is fairly easy, and depending on your parts source the cost isn't that bad. I used all new parts purchased from Ronnie's HD at the discounted price (hate dealer pricing).
If anyone wants a parts list, I have it here. The pricing is probably different now, but gives you an idea of what it takes. Once I had all the parts in hand the actual conversion was done over a weekend.
I am not a fan of the SG and yes it would be easier to do a batwing fairing and go that route. I am crazy about the RG and want to go all in so that when you see it, it looks and functions exactly like a RG. My only question is can I use a fairing off of a newer RG and will a 6 gal tank fit my bike or do I have to stay with a 97-07 tank and fairing?
I am not looking for a new to me bike as I cannot afford a payment and I have way to much into this bike and like it and just want to add the Road Glide front fairing gauges and stereo to it. I like the RG because the fairing is mounted to the frame of the bike not just to the forks.
I made mine into a Streetking CVO. Streetglide front and rear fenders, side covers and stretched bags with the SG pinstripes. CVO wheels, shocks. Chopped tourpak with King backrest. Tmax, true duals, a/c stack. I like the cleaner look. Its fast and comfortable.
My King is undergoing a transformation into a CVO style Street Glide. Had my bike up for sale, but no takers, and I've already got decent $$ in it so it was cheaper to keep it and install a fairing, hard extended bags, and a new front wheel. Best of luck in your build!
Your bike is sweet right now, but make it what you want and "F" everyone else. Keep us posted on your progress. You may inspire others to make changes as well. Best to you and your bike!
