Went with 12" premium hand adjustable and they not only smoothed out the ride, but also made the bike handle so much better. Found them used off a Street Glide Special.
Have a friend who installed Progressives. Thing rides like a pogo stick now. Must need some adjustment.
Another option is the Harley Hammock seat. No more bang when you hit a pot hole or dip.
I'm beating my lady's back up when I hit bumps. I have the stock shocks on there now, put the air at 25 lbs to 30 lbs but still rides hard. Any suggestions. I'm 170 lbs, she is 110 lbs. I'm 5'7" and can flat foot now. I measured the shocks now and they are 12" from center of bolts. I'm looking at either the Monroe air ride or the Progressive 944 standard height shocks now. Any suggestions?
Check out Super Shox. They have three inches of travel and set at 11.5. I have a set and they rock!
I had the same issue. On the same bike.
I bought the Progressive 444's in 13" to give me a bit more travel. No perceptible height difference. A big improvement. I also did the front shocks too because the front would dip when I used the brakes.
Togather a much improved ride.
In the long run, the seat and back support were a bigger problem. So, we bought a new Road Glide Ultra CVO. It has the equivalent of a Barcolounger on the back. Not a real cost effective answer, but it's an awesome ride.
Now I'm selling the Street Glide, and have pulled the new rear shocks off deciding to sell them or give them to whoever buys the bike. Hate to just give them away since I just got them at Sturgis.
Thanks, so it looks like Progressive, Ohlins and Super Shox are the favorites, besides the Harley alternative. I need to research the Monroe air shock system that some people are using next. Don't know much about that yet.

Go here and read up on shock theory. Even if you don't get Ohlins you can learn a lot about shocks. Btw, when anyone here says Ohlins this is they guy they are talking about, Howard. http://motorcyclemetal.com/
Put the Ohlin 2 on my 2011 SG last spring it's like a different bike not just the ride but the handling also. another thing for your wife is an Ultra seat. My wife loves it and I sent it to Mean City Cycles to have the front redone for me, narrower and lower.
I have the 944's in stock for $528 a set. Save some serious dough. These are 13" shocks that sit at 12" but offer the travel of a 13" shock which equates to a much smoother ride.
