I liked the sound and look of my true duals on an 88" RK, but as usual the low end was terrible with them. After that experience, true duals have been just a memory.
Regardless, the tailgunner tips should still spin. One will likely have more spin than the other, but who really is noticing or keeping score on rotations per minute. Get em and try em if you like em.
Once the Tailgunners are installed and then treated to a few hundred or thousand miles of exhaust fumes and such they're not going to be spinning around on their own any more. You'll be taking them apart religiously to clean them out. JS
Proven on the dyno many times. True duals you give up low end.
Very true, we keep sayin' so! I had TDs on my current bike, set up by the same tuning shop who later set up my Supertrapp 2-into-1. Almost identical headline dyno numbers, but the Supertrapp not only gives better torque over the lower rev range where most of us ride, but is also much smoother running. Bike is transformed for the better in more ways than I expected.
For best efficiency true duals will be at the bottom of the list.
Sound quality also varies depending on type of head pipes and mufflers used.
Two into one is my favorite for power, but not for sound quality, they can be extremely "raspy" depending on type of muffler/baffles used.
The factory connected the down pipes with a cross-tube or common chamber for a reason, because it works well. Prior the CAT's showing up about all a guy had to do was to install some slip-on mufflers and you were done.
With the newer bikes the CAT and head pipes are a bit restrictive, and a huge heat sink, so need to be dealt with to achieve a good end result....IMHO......Cliff
Here is the Akrapovic on my bike. As you can see, still a work in progress. A forum member made the request that I post it. Bike should be finished (Indy says end of the month). Pretty much just tins being made to fit as I had a 7 gallon tank go on it and made for a whole lot more work. Hope the requester sees it...
