Is it ok to just swap out the 1157 tail/brake light bulb with a led equivalent with no issues ?
I plan on switching the whole bike to led eventually. Baby steps.
2004 ultra classic.
I have an 05 CVO FLHTCEE and am running Custom Dynamics rear Led inserts and Plasma rods. I plan on adding Leds to Fr turn sigs and will then have to Add a load Equalizer.Works perfect for rear only with no equalizer. I would highly recommend Cust dynamics very brite/lifetime warranty overall nice product.
The ones if seen that just replace the bulb were just a small bright spot and didn't reflect light as a standard 1156 or 57 did. I wouldn't waste my money on them. I have two Custom Dynamics and have been excellent in quality and brightness.
you can swap- alot of the leds are not great quality.
If I were you, I'd use a light bulb and watch the classifieds for a bright *** light ( that's a brand name) they are well worth it.
if changing the turn signals you need a load equalizer

I have the $200 one (BAL-1) and I love it. Have transferred it from my Heritage to Road Glide Ultra and now my current '14 Limited. Everyone knows when I am braking!!! I plan to upgrade to the $400 one some day.
Using ones like those made by jamstright will work just fine. They will never be a good as the real deal like A BAL tail light but better than what you have.
IMO save you money and down the road do it right.
I went for the BAL-2S. It was the pricier one. It is pretty awesome. It melts retenas. Prior I had the HD LED smoked unit. It was pretty good but the BAL is pretty fantastic.
You won't be happy with the mediocre lighting a LED bulb gives. I've seen a few. I found an insert for my wife's Deluxe Tombstone tail light. It is pretty bright as well.
