currently, I own a 2008 fatboy with aftermarket batwing fairing and a 2007 Road King.
The Fatboy I like, The Road King to but I actually find him a bit too heavy and clumsy at slow turns and maneuvers as I am only 5.4 ft, and have some trouble with getting my feet flat on the ground even with a lower seat and lower shocks !! No problem with the Fatboy with nothing changed or lowered !
I'm thinking about buying a new Street Glide
Are there people like me who have made this change ? And I'm wondering will I find it to heavy ? I know you will say go for a test ride,but everything NEW is so exciting you dont mind at first
I have a 2014 SGS Ilike it a lot. I lowered the front end, and just had my seat redone to get me lower. I am 5'8 now both feet hit the ground. For you at 5'4 I don't think you can get it much lower. Answer to second question yes its heavy I think around 800lbs. Maybe RK is lower, with front end lowered and seat work it may work for you. I sent my seat to.

Well, the center of gravity is much lower on your Fat Boy, plus the aftermarket fairing probably doesn't weigh as much as a factory bat wing fairing, so I'm guessing if you go to a Street Glide, you're going to notice a big difference at slow speeds. Maybe the newer Touring frame that came out in 09 will help? You can spend a fortune trying to lower a Touring Model, but the center of gravity (which is the key as there is more to it than just a lower seat height) will not be as low. IMO, the rest of the ride on a Touring Model is a lot better than any Softail.....normal speeds, highway speeds, handling in corners is no contest. I've been a die hard Softail guy for 25 years, with a few Touring Models thrown in from time to time and both have a plus & minus side. I test rode a SG & RG back when they had low financing back in June and ended up with a RG because it seemed to handle easier at slow parking lot speeds.....plus, I know I'm in the minority, but I liked the look of it better. Btw, I'm not a fan of any fairing on a Fat Boy, but yours looks tuffer than nails. Nice job! Good luck with your decision.
тнє street glides have the same frame as the road kings and are a little heavier. I am 5'7" with a ultra classic, I have lowered shocks in the rear and an ultra low seat and I can flat foot. It doesn't take long to get used to the extra weight when you get her set up right.
You could also use air ride to lower the rear completely at stops and bump it back up for ride comfort.
I'm 5'4", 145 pounds, and went from a Dyna Low Rider to a '14 SGS. I put a reach seat on it when I bought it (the regular one, not the super reach seat as it put the "boys" on the tank!). It was OK but I still could not flat foot it. A friend bought a '15 Limited low & when I sat on it, I could barley flat foot it, but it felt much better than my bike. I went to the dealer & he took a stock low seat off a new limited low bike & let me try it out on my SGS...I ordered one! Then I got new boots with 2" heels...now I'm a happy camper.
The weight difference was HUGE compared to the Low Rider, but the ride was SOOOO much better. I quickly got used to the weight & slow handling difficulties, and now am very comfortable with slow maneuvers. My only problem, still, is backing up...just not enough leg length to bend the knees to get much leverage, but I manage. I'm contemplating an air ride setup, but just haven't convinced myself I really need one.
I have 2016 SG and I am 5'5 the reach seat seemed to only move me forward and actually felt taller than the stock seat.I just bought different boots and added an ultra seat that i will send to mcc. I too have a hard time backing up but as far as slow maneuvering you will get used to it.
Have you considered a Switchback with an aftermarket fairing ? It has considerable less weight weighing right at 700 lbs. You would have detachable hardbags and a pretty low factory seat height. Just a thought giving you another option.
You may need to test three or four new Harley's to fine what you want. The good point to
all this is, all the 2016 H-D's are Rushmores, except the Dyna Street Bob.
Test ride a Street Glide then a Road Glide, you should be able to tell the different feel in
how they steer and carry their weight. Next try a Dyna Switchback would be good, a lot less
weight too. The 2016 Bike that I would want to test ride, and think about buying is the new
Fatboylow-S with the new 110 inch engine, all blacked out. You could switch the faring on
your old Fatboy to the S Bike
