Default Am I Just Being a Beeatch?

I just finished putting drag specialties stainless clutch and brake line on my RK. The clutch looks really nice, the brake is darker in color and has some kind of writing inside the clear coating...guessing that is supposed to be dot crap or something...its is far from legible. Anyway, the brake just looks "dirty" compared to the clutch. Guess it would be fine if the clutch was the same. The clutch almost looks polished compared to the brake. Am I just being a biznatch about this? Also, Do they make brake lines with same OD as the clutch cable?

You are justified- you are going to be staring at it everytime you ride.

I suppose you can use this time to look for a matching brake line- stop by some indy shops who actually have stuff in stock.

in years past in was hard to find stainless brake lines which were tuv/DOT approved.
about 20 years ago my boss had a local "awesome custom magazine bike builder" put all stainless oil and fuel lines on his bike.

one day outside work i noticed his lines were "wet"...they weren't approved for petroleum products and the lining had broken down and had dissolved into his motor oil and gas.... damaged his motor requiring a rebuild.

which is kinda the good news..as the same line was used for his brakes and could have let go at any moment

so at least you know your line is certified...

Thanks Mike! Good to hear the positives...and it was only 50 bucks and got me an excuse to get in the garage. Yeah...tough to find Indy shops with stuff in stock around here. I have three on speed dial. The brake line I had actually had the wrong banjo fitting. I was able to bring it to a shop about an hour and a half away where they could put a 90 degree fitting on it... That's how dedicated I am lol. Well at least I can roll now.

I have no idea- another complaint has been lines yellowing over time.

all my lines are black.

You may have to get to a bike week type event to see up close what is available.

or maybe one of our members will have specific suggestions

If you bought these new, then you should be contacting Drag Specialties with your questions. I've never received any that were mismatched in color. And to answer your other question the clutch cable will always be a larger diameter than the brake line.

The brake line was probably made by a different company or just aged more. I think Drag Specialties, Motion Pro, etc, pretty much use the same companies for their coated stainless lines so just take the brake line part number and punch it into Ebay and you will probably find another to replace it with. I have clutch, brake and throttle cables that are all coated stainless I got from Hill Country Custom when I did my bars and all were Motion Pro branded. The clutch cable housing started leaking oil from between the cable and fitting that goes in the transmission and I had to replace the cable. I found that the same part number Motion Pro uses is the same number other companies that sell them also use.

Why not get the braided stainless cables? The cables will always match then.

That is what I installed...braided stainless. The clutch looks good, the brake looks darker tinted steel inside and the lettering inside is just an tiny bit of diffused ink like...looks dingy! This was also before install. Just too excited to get it on to care at first. Oh well lesson learned.
