I have a 2015 Ultra Limited. If I do a stage 1, why do I need to change the air breather...
Unless you are making significant changes in the intake, heads, pistons, and exhaust, the stock air cleaner flows more then even a slightly modified system requires.
Many aftermarket systems are advertised to flow at great volumes. What they don't say is that almost no stock (or nearly stock) system will ever get close to needing flows offered by those aftermarket systems. There's a huge difference between what the aftermarket air cleaner system will flow as opposed to what you motor can flow even at its max rate.
In short, most will gain almost nothing going to a "high flow" system...your motor simply doesn't pull that much air.
flow at idle will be considerably less than at 6000. very little is said about what rpm a particular filter reaches max flow. at 3000 most if not all will flow enough for engine demand. The occasional redline run may require an upgrade to flow enough. The engine determines what it can handle, not the ability of the filter.
The stock Rushmore has been flow tested to be more than adequate for a stage 1 exhaust. so the moco has supplies a stock filter that works but people are too used to changing out stock to even realize it.

I agree 100%, but by god your friends will think its faster when you say high flow air cleaner.
So, it sounds like if I'm using Vance Hines pipes and mufflers, a FP3 Auto Tuner, and my stock air cleaner, I should be fine.
Why don't you call V&H 1(562)921-7461, DynoJet 1(800) 992-4993 and Fuel Moto 1(920) 423-3309 tell them what you have and what you want to do and see what they recommend.
My wife and I have 2 Limiteds, 2014 for me and 2015 for her and we went with V&H Power Duals, Monster Ovals for me Rounds for her and Arlen Ness Big Sucker AC. Bought a Dynojet PV2 for each bike and we are very happy with the way they run. Installation for everything was easy hassle free and the PV is simple to use and easy to Auto-tune.
I have a 14 ultra limited that I did a stage 1 on. I kept the stock air cleaner and just replaced the filter with a K&N filter. Had the bike dyno and it runs awesome. I was told that the stock air cleaner flows just as good as an aftermarket stage one. It's now putting out 96hp. With 112 ft lbs. I used Mastertune TTS, Screaming Eagle Street Cannons and stock a/c with K&N filter. Good Luck, enjoy the bike!
96 hp after doing just the stage 1?, stock cams?
Hard to believe.

Exactly! The dealerships and aftermarket companies tell you that you "need" a different air intake because they make money when they sell more parts. Some people are either crazy enough to believe these companies or they change air intakes just for looks. I have had 2 bikes that had stage 1 intakes and I could tell no difference at all in the way they ran before and after the intake. I found out that the rushmore intakes will fit on my 09 ultra and ended up finding a good deal on a new take off, so I bought it to go with my vance & hines slip ons and fuelpak and the bike runs perfect. More than enough power for me.
Your stock rushmore intake with a k&n filter will provide more than enough air than your engine needs. Don't buy into the nonsense that you "need" a different intake.
