Obviously a radar detector isn't going to save you every time. As for the "instant on" radar used by some agencies, when my detector shows intermittent 'hits', getting progressively stronger, the usual cause is an officer coming toward me checking cars ahead of me. Time to slow down [if necessary].

They're still used by folks who don't trailer their bike. I move one between my BMW and Harley. It saved my *** many times.

Good post! I've also been saved from many a ticket by using my detector.

Ha LOL, don't own a trailer and still manage to ride 25000 plus miles a year WITHOUT a radar detector.

So in other words when your detector goes off is when they are locking in your speed, if your detector ever goes off in the first place.

Another consideration for having a radar detector mounted on a bike is the attitude of the officer if you do get stopped. Some officers will automatically write the ticket when you are using radar detecting equipment, rather than talking to you first and maybe checking your driving record prior to making the final decision. Just saying.......
Yep. I agree. RADAR detectors are good for letting you know that your about to get a ticket. I guess some areas they still use RADAR but in my area almost all the cops use LASER. I'm retired LEO and even 10 years ago we did away with most of our RADAR units in favor of Laser. I'm sure they probably still use them out West. Might help, you out there in the wide open areas.

So far (Knock on Wood), I've managed to not get a Ticket in well over 30 years. The past 25 or so without a Radar Detector. Basically the formula that I follow is that I add ~5 MPH to the posted limit or I'll set the Cruise Control (actual or mental) at 72 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. At this rate of travel I do get passed every so often. The relatively low frequency that I am passed by others, seems to supply the Leo's with sufficiently frequent interest, that so far, I've manage to slip under the radar (pun intended). I also make sure that my Speedometers are 100% accurate or I know exactly what the error is.

A good article concerning radar detectors. http://www.radardetector.org/radar-d...-police-radar/ The main thing is don't buy a cheap one. I myself have a high dollar Beltronics Radar/Laser detector that has paid for itself many times over. I've also designed and built a detector mount for my bagger for the type mount that Beltronics and others use that works great and makes it so the detector is easily transferable between my vehicle and my bike, I'd post a photo of it but I'm considering taking out a patent on my design.

Not sure how we went from an equipment mounting topic to a philosophical or moral debate on the use of said equipment. I didn't ask if anyone else used them or why not, I simply asked for mounting options. I could care less if you do or don't use a detector or if you wear pink undies. I haul butt, use a detector, and wear boxer briefs. M'k?

Cops can't stand radar detectors. I can't stand cops.

I use a TPX quick release mounting plate on a RAM mount stalk bolted to the clutch bracket, and a hard wired power plug with the TPX visual alert. Same plug & play setup on both bikes...
