Default $$$ RKC BARS $$$

Hi,

My local Providence dealer is charging $1000 to install any Wild1 1 Chubby bar of your choice along with internal wiring and all chrome controls on a Road King. Sounds outrageous.
Is this the going rate ?????

There are enough dealers within an hour of Providence to check prices. Warwick, Pawtucket, Exeter,Westport MA, Auburn MA, Framingham MA, West Bridgewater MA, Pocasset MA, Groton CT. A phone call to any or all of these will get you the going dealer rate. If that fails, call the independent shops.

Take you time and follow the "BOOK" and write down the connectors & get a hanger to run the wires... Makes for a fun Week-end project and saves you ton's $$$$$$$$$$$$

takes dealer 3-5 hours, hardest part is getting wires thru bars the rest is just putting everything back together. I did my carlini bars, took me about 7.5 hours(with stopping and talking) and installed tach, changed to braided lines very happy. saved at least $500 I would do it again on my own bike, would help someone, but I would not do the job for someone

Does that include the cost of the parts as well? If so, then it's a pretty good price. The labor associated with changing out the bars is significant, especially on an '07 where the wiring harness will need to be extended. Does this include the labor to replace the black cables with stainless? That's another hour or so.

I put Wild One 518s (Chubby II) bars on my RK Custom in about 3 hours; I was careful & took my time. $1K sounds outrageous!

Sounds sky high to me. Of course, I'm a cheap do-it-yourselfer. First, I wouldn't pay retail for the Chubby's. I'd buy a set of their blems. They used to be 99 bucks. I've never been able to find the blemish on them. Then, I wouldn't buy the HD controls. I'd buy an aftermarket set for 129 bucks. I've put on several sets and had zero problems. Mine are 7 years old and still look great. I would not buy any cables. The stock ones can be rerouted to work. I'd buy brake lines only if I needed them. That, of course, depends on the bars you choose. So all in all, I'd do the job myself for $250-$400 bucks worth of parts.

I believe it was right around $1100 for mine (parts/labor).
When I bought the bike new I had housings, switches, bars (white bros), internal wiring with extensions, braided cables, etc., done before I picked it up.
Looking back, I wish I would have just done it myself. Being an uninformed newb though, I paid the dealer.
Live and learn I guess.

Best of Luck

Great advice. I do the same thing with the blems, cables etc etc.
I must do a pretty good job as most of my friends come out to my shop and "we" change their bars out over a few beers...
I make them write me a check for 60 bucks an hour but black out the bank numbers so I can never cash it. I then frame the check on my wall.
They make the check out to LP's customs... kinda neat.

They make all there $$$ on extras ever since they stop charging 3k over and started selling msrp. I would shop around and maybee try an independant bike shop. Just ask thatprovidence dealerfor a quote on how many hours labor to do the job and what there rate is. I know for a fact they charge you for everything including the locktite. just my .02
