It's compulsory in some markets, to protect the twit of a rider from riding off with the stand still down. Hold on - I've done that occasionally.......
On a Harley however the darned thing is big enough that it's difficult to ignore. Your factory service manual will deal with it, so you can compare an International model with your bike.
I used to leave the kickstand down on my Vulcan 750, which had an interlock. But on the Harley the Jiffy Stand is staring you right in the face, and I never forget. I am glad it doesn't have an interlock. Just another electric doohickey that can fail.
Muscle memory. My ricer had the interlock feature, maybe once or twice I forgot to raise the stand and rode away. Never even came close with the Limited- just habbit now I guess to raise it.
One time I did forget to lower it- that's an experience you only want to have once.

They are required in some countries. Betting if you really feel a need for it , would not be a big deal to have it installed. HD sells bikes in many countries that do require it.
Per my dealer after calling the factory; you need a valid VIN (at least for a Rushmore) for the stand interlock to plug and play. You can not program it to the bike to allow it to function "normally" unless it is a police model or a non-USA model. Anyone else know any different?
My 2004 Cop Bike had the clutch safety thing where you had to pull it in to start. I never had one before, never had a problem before.I figured I have been riding these things for 30 years and NEVER accidentally started my bike in gear. I disabled it and promptly started the damn thing in gear in my packed garage !! Thankfully it stalled after a couple chugs!! I had gotten used to it after owning the bike only a few weeks I guess?! I can see where a kickstand safety would be useful especially as I get older and my CRS gets worse.
I'm not sure I want to do it but if I did, is a jiffy stand interlock an easy install (plug and play) on a 2014 touring model or is it something you have to have married to the CAN buss at the dealer?
From looking at the wiring diagrams the JSS (Jiffy Stand Sensor) connects to the main harness at connector #133B.
