Default Jiffy stand angle correction + spring relocation mod

Hi, all. From another thread, I found a machine shop that was offering a replacement for the stock jiffy stand stop, which would move the stand forward approximately 10° from stock. The stock jiffy stand position always bothered me a bit, due to how far back it would travel, even when locked. Maybe nothing to worry about, but still psychologically disturbing to me

From the other thread, I got the opportunity to review this new jiffy stand stop, as well as a spring relocating bracket that gives the stock spring more authority.

Here's the goods:

I like how they come individually bagged, with instructions.

Here's the new stop on the left; you can see the difference in hole rotation.

Just for reference, here's a shot of how far back the stock jiffy stand is allowed to rotate. Not confidence-inspiring.

So I removed the jiffy stand bracket, which includes the left floorboard. There's a bolt that goes through the original spring hole, and threads down into the new spring plate. Then you re-attach the floorboard / jiffy stand mount and locktite that bad boy up.

Here's the jiffy stand as it now sits, as far forward as it will go:

...and as far back as it will go. I like this; it's no longer angled so far back like the stock setup. For some reason it's less worrisome

As for the spring relocation bracket, I'm not sure about it and may remove it. It adds a lot of authority to the spring, so much so that it tends to get away from you when extending the stand. So I will probably keep the new rotation stop, but return the spring to its original stock position.

Regardless, if you like the concept, here's a link to the vendor:

Ride safe!

I keep reading about the jiffy stand angled back. Mine is not on my 2008. It looks very much like yours after the mod. What years have this poorly angled jiffy stand?

Mines a 2015 SG. My '02 Sportster does not do this. The angle is pretty extreme, even worrisome. I do like the change that the new stop made.

I'd say it's more of a visual thing. Can't see any mechanical gain/loss. It does look better with the change. Not understanding the spring thing mod, more tension??

That's going to spoil the fun! Having owned Harleys since the '70s I have always taken pleasure from other people getting anxious about my bike, as I have parked it. I don't understand why any owner should have problems with it, after all the origins of that stand are the CHIPS. It is said they designed it so an officer could put it down with his foot as he stepped off the bike to give chase (I like to imagine), drawing his sidearm as he gets into his stride.

LOTS more tension. Too much, IMO. Gonna remove it, coz I don't like the way it "bangs" into the down position.

..... you know, when i stop my 900 lb hog, i instinctively lean it a bit to the right, put my left heel on the protruding part of the side stand & push it forward.
.... i push it all the way forward, as far as it'll go
..... then i get off... and go on about doing whatever it is I happened to have stopped for.
...... i've never had the motorcycle fall over.
.... i'm glad ya'll have been able to re-engineer the jiffy stand. Somehow, i'm thinking that i'll just leave mine alone, wouldn't want to chance it voiding the warranty.
......... now...... if that little doodad was chromed, i might rethink my position
